West Indies recorded their second successive win in the World Twenty20, chasing down Sri Lanka's feeble 122/9 with seven wickets in hand in Bengaluru on Sunday. West Indies won the toss and chose to field and it was their underrated bowlers who put in a match-winning performance.
Sri Lanka were kept on a tight leash and hardly allowed to accelerate, with leg-spinner Samuel Badree coming up with outstanding figures of 1-12 in his four overs. For Sri Lanka, Thisara Perera found some form, hitting a late 29-ball 40 push Sri Lanka's score beyond 120.
However, the Bengaluru crowd that came in to see Chris Gayle was left disappointed as the West Indian batsman picked up a hamstring injury and remained off the field for the majority of Sri Lanka's innings. He did not come out to open either, but West Indies remained unperturbed. They got off to a good start, getting to 39 in the first five overs. Sri Lanka did pick up three wickets, but they dropped some crucial chances and bowled too many wides, providing West Indies an easy escape route. Andre Fletcher, opening in place of Gayle, anchored the West Indian chase with 84 runs off 64 balls.
