A Kerala court on Sunday ordered a case to be registered against Inspector General Suresh Raj Purohit after his minor son was caught on camera driving an official police vehicle. The Thrissur Juvenile Justice Court has also asked the police to file an FIR and a case against Purohit, reported PTI. Earlier, the Kerala High Court had restrained the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau from taking further action in the case citing the matter does not come under the purview of the bureau.
According to reports, the incident occurred on March 1. Malayalam newspaper Kaumudi reported that the police turned a blind eye to the incident, even though the video clippings of the minor driving the official blue-beacon vehicle in a police academy premises were aired by television channels. Purohit has also filed a petition in the court challenging the order. The IG told CNN-IBN that he will comment on the matter after "all this is over".
