More than 120 children fell ill in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, after eating a midday meal in a government school. District Magistrate K Balaji told PTI that the children were rushed to a nearby hospital soon after. Four teachers were suspended and five members of staff fired. A four-member investigative team was also constituted to look into the incident.
The Times of India reported that the principal of the school and teachers locked themselves inside the school briefly while an angry mob of parents stood outside. Hundreds of locals had gathered outside once the children fell ill, after which security deployed in the village. Ballia’s Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Jha said an FIR will be lodged against the school principal and staff.
