Tunisian police on Monday killed at least 21 militants near the Libyan border. Reports said that four civilians were also killed, after militants targeted a police station and military barracks in the border town of Ben Guerdane. Officials told Al Jazeera that the attack came after raids in Libya against members of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. The report said Tunisia had built a fence along its border with Libya, but that armed attackers still managed to move across into Tunisia.
The Tunisian government urged residents of the area to stay indoors on Monday, and imposed a night-time curfew in the town. Last week, Tunisian forces killed five armed men who had crossed into the country.
