A resident of the French island of Reunion, who had found a wing fragment from the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 last year, said on Sunday that he had come across a second possible bit from the Boeing aircraft, AFP reported. Johnny Begue said he handed over the debris to the police immediately after finding it last Thursday. According to Begue, the object was of the same lightweight “honeycomb” construction as the other wing piece, known as a flaperon, and measured around 40 cm by 20 cm.
Begue’s discovery comes a days after an American amateur investigator found an object that could also be debris of the Boeing aircraft in a sandbank in the Mozambique Channel, some 2,100 km west of Reunion. It has been sent to Australia for analysis. So far, the flaperon found last July remains the only piece of debris that has been confirmed as part of the missing Boeing 777. On March 8, 2014, Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 disappeared en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur with 239 passengers and crew on board.
