Former United States first lady Nancy Reagan died at the age of 94 on Sunday. A spokeswoman for the Reagan presidential library said she died at her Los Angeles home, and the cause of death was congestive heart failure, Reuters reported. Her husband Ronald Reagan was the 40th president of the United States and died in 2004. Her stepson Michael Reagan wrote on Twitter, “She is once again with the man she loved.”

Nancy Reagan is considered one of the most influential first ladies of the United States. She was an actress when she met Ronald Reagan in the early 1950s, who was then also an actor and president of the Screen Actors Guild. She remained protective of her husband throughout his journey from actor to president, along with his struggle with Alzheimer’s disease for 10 years. Her most popular project as first lady was the "Just Say No" campaign to help kids and teens stay off drugs, reported the Associated Press.

The news of Reagan's death drew condolence messages from across the country. President Barack Obama and wife Michelle Obama said Nancy Reagan redefined the role of first lady. “Nancy Reagan once wrote that nothing could prepare you for living in the White House...We had a head start because we were fortunate to benefit from her proud example,” the Obamas wrote in a joint statement.
