Western Army Commander Lt Gen K J Singh on Saturday said the Army has "disturbing inputs" about possible terror attacks in the country during the upcoming Maha Shivratri festival and the ongoing Parliament session. "There are security-related problems today. You know, Maha Shivratri is coming. There are inputs which are disturbing but notwithstanding that extra care has been taken," Gen Singh told PTI. The Maha Shivratri festival will be held on March 7.
Though he refused to elaborate on the intelligence input, he said such attacks are planned around important events to create "maximum media impact". However, he reassured that the Indian Army is fully prepared to deal with such "mischievous" acts. Gen Singh further added that the Border Security Force has averted a major attack by detecting a tunnel near the International Border in Jammu & Kashmir’s R S Pura sector on March 3.
The India Today on Saturday reported that an abandoned fishing boat was found off the Gujarat coast near Bhuj, following which the Intelligence Bureau has issued an alert of possible terror attacks in the state. The IB officials fear that nearly 8-10 Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists have managed to enter the state from the Kutch area. Security has been increased in the coastal and border areas in the state.
