Veteran Bollywood actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar will be given the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to the film industry. It would make him the 47th recipient of the honour, reported PTI. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is the highest honour in Indian cinema. It includes a golden lotus, a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh and a shawl.
Kumar is best known for his patriotic films Purab Aur Paschim, Upkar and Kranti. The 78-year-old actor debuted as a romantic hero in 1960 in Kaanch Ki Gudia. However, his focus on acting and directing films with patriotic themes earned him the moniker Bharat Kumar. He won a National Film Award for Upkaar, along with a Padma Shri in 1992.
