The Haryana Police on Sunday registered the first FIR on the alleged gangrapes by Jat agitators during protests in Murthal last week, reported PTI. The report was filed when a woman from Narela in Delhi appeared before a Special Investigation Team comprising three senior women officers, and claimed that she was raped by seven men on the night of February 22.
"This could be the first breakthrough with the first victim appearing before us and lodging written complaints against seven persons. We have registered an FIR under relevant Sections of the IPC. We are investigating the matter," said Raj Shree Singh, the head of the SIT.
In her complaint, the woman said that she was travelling with her minor daughter in a van when some goons stopped the vehicle near Sukhdev dhaba. She said the miscreants overpowered the male passengers and gangraped her while holding her daughter hostage. She said that those among the culprits include her brothers-in-law and her sister-in-law. The SIT said that though this could be a case of family dispute, they have registered the case and will thoroughly investigate it before reaching a conclusion.
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday said that those guilty of sexually assaulting women, first reported by The Tribune, will not be spared. In a statement, the CM also asked people to come forward and share any information regarding the incidents.
