Actor Karisma Kapoor has filed a case of dowry harassment against her estranged husband Sanjay Kapur and mother-in-law Rani Surinder Kapur. The Mumbai Police has registered an FIR under the dowry section of the Indian Penal Code. Kapoor alleged she had been mentally harassed by her husband and mother-in-law over a period of time. Mid Day reported that the couple had earlier filed for divorce with mutual consent, but Kapoor later withdrew her consent saying her husband did not meet certain financial commitments.
The divorce case, which is pending before a family court, has steadily grown more acrimonious. Kapur accused the actor of marrying him only for his money, and for failing as a mother, wife and daughter-in-law. He had reportedly claimed she was using their children to demand money as well. Kapur had also filed an application at the Supreme Court to transfer the case to Delhi, citing a threat to his life from underworld don Ravi Pujari.
