The Indian-Swiss duo of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis finally had their 41-match winning streak broken on Thursday at the quarterfinals of the Qatar Open in Doha. The world No 1 pair lost 6-2 4-6 5-10 to the Russian duo of Elena Vesnina and Daria Kasatkina.
Mirza and Hingis' streak began at the US Open in September last year. Had they won three more games, they would have equalled the record set by Natasha Zvereva of Belarus and Czech Jana Jana Novotna who had 44 wins on the trot.
The longest women's doubles win streak is 109 matches, set by the American pair of Martina Navratilova and Pam Shriver between 1983 and 1985.
