The International Cricket Council has begun the sale of tickets of some matches of the World Twenty20, with less than two weeks to go before the event begins. The first match – Hong Kong vs Zimbabwe – will be played on March 8 in Nagpur.
Tickets for most matches are available in the first phase through the ticketing website BookMyShow. Tickets for matches involving India, and for the semifinals and finals, will only be distributed through a unique lottery system. Customers will need to register and indicate their preferred match after which they will be put into a draw. The winners will be notified and given an opportunity to buy the tickets for the match they have indicated.
According to the official website, this lottery system has been established, "considering the demand and in order to ensure a fair opportunity and equal distribution of tickets amongst all the eager fans."
Over-the-counter tickets from the respective venues will be announced soon. In the past, ticket sales for such tournaments had been announced three to six months in advance. The ICC said, "It will be inappropriate to compare the ICC WT20 India 2016 with any previous event as the preparation for every event is different."
