Opener Rohit Sharma's knock formed the bedrock of India's 45-run win over Bangladesh in the first T20 match of the Asia Cup in Mirpur on Wednesday. India had got off to a dreadful start, losing Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina early in the innings to slump to 42/3 and in danger of being bowled out for a sub-par score.

However, Rohit Sharma was dropped on 22 and soon broke loose. In a partnership with Hardik Pandya, who scored 31 off 18 balls, Rohit Sharma mixed aggression with caution to take India to a score well past 150, finishing on 83 off just 55 balls. Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni hit the last ball of India's innings for a six as India finished on 166/6.

In reply, Bangladesh were troubled by the prodigious swing that India's opening bowlers Ashish Nehra and Hardik Pandya got and could hardly get going. They lost their openers by the fourth over and failed to stitch together any sort of momentum, finishing on 121/7 in their 20 overs. Nehra was India's wrecker-in-chief, finishing with 3/23 off his four overs.
