A special investigation team set up by the Pakistan government to investigate the Pathankot attacks has recommended that the federal government lodge an FIR against Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar and four others, CNN-IBN reported. The SIT had been constituted by Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif after India asked for action from Pakistan against terror groups that worked on its soil. The SIT’ recommendations where on the basis of information provided by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to his Pakistani counterpart Lt General (Retired) Naseer Khan. However, according to India Today, Pakistan has lodged the FIR, but left Azhar out. This could not be verified.
The SIT team's recommendation is significant as Pakistan had earlier denied any evidence linking Azhar to the attacks, though India has been insisting he was. Indian investigators had said they had evidence including call records to show that the JeM and Azhar were involved in planning the attack. Talks between the foreign secretaries of both countries were postponed after the attacks.
