The Central Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday said it had initiated inquiries against as many as 2,200 corrupt government officials in 2015, reported the Times of India. The investigative agency said this was a 94% jump compared to 2014.
CBI director Anil Sinha said the agency had registered 101 FIRs against corrupt senior government officials in 2015. The agency also filed chargesheets against 1,044 people, including industrialist Naveen Jindal, and politicians such as A Raja and Virbhadra Singh. This was the highest number of chargesheets filed by the agency in the past five years.
Sinha said there was a 56% increase in the number of cases registered against officials in disproportionate assets cases. The CBI's performance on the international front has been the best, with a 91% rise in the number of fugitives brought back to the country.
