United States President Barack Obama on Tuesday said that he had faith that American people would not let brash Republican hopeful Donald Trump become president. Calling it a “serious job“, Obama said that being president is “not a talk show or a reality show, it's not promotion, it's not marketing, it's hard. It's not a matter of pandering and doing whatever will get you in the news on a given day“.
Obama’s damning critique made references to all the reasons Trump, a billionaire who had a wildly popular reality TV show, has been seen as a frontrunner among the Republican party’s candidates. Trump’s populist and controversial statements have appealed to a section of the American public that is heartened by what they see are strong stands. These include vowing to keep both Mexicans and Muslims out of the country. Making one outrageous claim after another, Trump has kept himself in the media.
Trump responded saying he considered the criticism a compliment from a president who has done so much damage to the country, the BBC reported.
