Congress leader Kalikho Pul on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Arunachal Pradesh Governor Jyoti Prashad Rajkhowa staking claim to form a government in the state. Pul led a joint delegation of 32 members of the Arunachal Pradesh assembly to meet the governor at Raj Bhavan. The delegation consisted of 19 Congress, 11 Bharatiya Janata Party and two independent MLAs, along with the leader of Opposition Tamiyo Taga.

The BJP said that it would support a Congress government led by Pul, reported Scroll.in contributor Tongam Rina. The delegation also urged the governor to invite Pul to form the government as soon as the President’s Rule is revoked. The governor is reported to have said that he will put forward their claims to President Pranab Mukherjee, after consulting legal experts.

The Congress had moved the Supreme Court last month, challenging the Union Cabinet's recommendation for President’s Rule to be imposed in Arunachal Pradesh. Former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki had called the move "politically motivated". Arunachal Pradesh has been embroiled in a political crisis for several months. Itanagar has seen a series of escalating political standoffs over the last year. What started as dissidence within the Congress grew into a rift between the state government and the governor, who was seen as an emissary of the Centre.
