Indian-American judge Sri Srinivasan may be nominated by United States President Barack Obama to the country's Supreme Court, following the death of Justice Antonin Scalia on Saturday, PTI reported. If Srinivasan gets the nomination, he would be the first person from the Indian-American community to achieve the feat. The 48-year-old is currently a member of the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit – a traditional launch pad for Supreme Court nominees, CNN reported.
Reports have labelled Srinivasan as Obama's "Supreme Court nominee in waiting". He was the outgoing US president's principal deputy solicitor general, most notably working on the successful fight against the Defence of Marriage Act. Srinivasan also has experience working on the other side of the aisle, serving as an assistant to the solicitor general during the George W Bush administration and as a clerk to Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, a former Associate Justice of the US Supreme Court.
