An arrest order was issued on Saturday for Rashtriya Janata Dal legislator Raj Ballabh Yadav in connection with a case of abduction and rape of a minor. The 15-year-old girl gave her statement to police on Saturday. Shalin Kumar, Inspector General of Police, Patna Range, said based on evidence so far, the minor’s case was true and that an investigation was underway.
NDTV said the girl told Nalanda district police that on February 6 a woman, Sulekha Devi, abducted her and took her to a place where she was forced to drink alcohol. After that Yadav allegedly raped her. She said Devi then gave her Rs 30,000 to not report the incident, but she told her parents about it. The crime reportedly took place at the MLA’s residence.
The RJD currently holds a majority in the Bihar assembly after state elections took place last year. The state is already facing accusations of falling to “jungle raj”, after the murder of two Bharatiya Janata Party leaders there on Friday.
