Police on Thursday arrested two Samajwadi Party workers accused in the death of an eight-year-old boy. The boy was killed in Shamli during celebratory firing by party workers on Sunday, after their candidate won a seat in local elections. The child was travelling in an autorickshaw when he was hit by a stray bullet. Uttar Pradesh police had earlier detained people in the case, but only arrested the main accused, Gayyur and Inam Dhuri, on Thursday, dna said.
Party workers along with MLA Nahid Hasan attacked two journalists on Tuesday after they covered the incident for their news channel. The media fraternity came down hard on the party, and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley demanded an investigation into the incident.
