Samajwadi Party MLA Nahid Hasan has sought an independent inquiry into the incident on Sunday in which an eight-year-old boy was killed in Shamli, Uttar Pradesh, during celebratory firing by party workers. Hasan, who was booked for allegedly attacking reporters covering the case, claimed that rival groups were conspiring against him and that he was not present at the site when the journalists had visited the area, PTI reported.
Hasan demanded that the Election Commission share footage of the videos taken at the location where SP supporters supposedly opened fire to celebrate the victory of a candidate in a local election. He wants the driver of the autorickshaw in which the child was travelling to be questioned as well.
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav ordered for the immediate removal of the sub-divisional magistrate after the death of the eight-year-old. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday criticised the attack on two crew members of an English news channel and called for an independent investigation into the incident.
