While the National Security Guard maintains that it killed six terrorists during counter operations in the Pathankot attack, investigators are doubtful about the number of militants really involved, Hindustan Times reported.

The second encounter in the siege, which involved two terrorists, took place on the ground floor of a two-storey building in the Indian Air Force base in Pathankot. Since the building was demolished during the attack, investigative officials could only find ashes and remnants of bodies, which were sent for forensic testing. However, a senior official from the Home Affairs Ministry questioned why even a single piece of the militants' clothes was not recovered, when investigators were able to recover shreds of bedclothes from the scene.

Investigators are now awaiting the forensic test results. The National Investigation Agency may re-examine the evidence put together so far, taking into consideration the possibility that only four attackers may have been involved. The official added that NIA chief Sharad Kumar may visit the Pathankot airbase next week to get another look at the evidence gathered by his team.
