A man was arrested on Sunday for the murder of a 21-year-old student of Delhi University after a woman's charred body was found in the accused's residence in Delhi, reported The Indian Express. Investigators said that the man identified as Naveen Khatri was in a relationship with the final year student of Lakshmibai College. However, his family didn't approve and wanted Khatri to marry someone else. Khatri was scheduled to get married to another girl on February 4. The victim's family had lodged a police complaint after she didn't return from college on February 2, reported ANI.
The police said the accused strangled the girl to death and first tried to dump the body somewhere else. He then tried to burn the body, but failed. According to the police, Khatri then left the body inside a shaft in the ventilation area in his house. On Sunday morning, neighbours called the police and complained of a "terrible stench". The police are probing the role of other members of the accused’s family in the incident.
