Sartaj Aziz, the foreign affairs advisor to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, said on Saturday that issues surrounding Kashmir will be prioritised in the foreign secretary-level talks between India and Pakistan. Aziz said on Radio Pakistan that Islamabad was urging the international community to implement United Nations resolutions in Kashmir, The Times of India reported. He said Pakistan will raise the Kashmir issue in bilateral engagements with India as well as at international fora so the world can help resolve the longstanding dispute.
During the commemoration of Kashmir Solidarity Day on Friday, Sharif himself emphasised the need to resolve the Kashmir matter to ensure peace in and to develop South Asia. He expressed hope that a comprehensive bilateral dialogue process would take things forward and said Pakistan was ready to cooperate with India on all subjects, including terrorism and Kashmir. “Unless we sit together and talk about these issues, they won't be resolved,” he had said.
The attacks on the Indian Air Force base in Pathankot early in January derailed talks between the two neighbouring countries, with India pushing Pakistan to take serious action against the perpetrators. India believes Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed was behind the attacks, in which seven security personnel were killed.
