Uttar Pradesh minister Azam Khan on Saturday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi met underworld gangster Dawood Ibrahim when he made a surprise visit to Lahore in December. The Samajwadi Party leader said the two met at Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s residence. Khan said he would provide evidence of the meeting to anybody who refuted it.

Khan said it was impossible for the head of any nation to visit a country without clearance from security and intelligence agencies, ANI reported. He added that Modi broke international law and went to his “enemy nation” to meet Ibrahim. Modi had made an unscheduled stopover in Lahore on December 25 to wish his Pakistani counterpart on his birthday.

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Sudhanshu Mittal has asked for Khan’s dismissal, while Congress leader Tom Vadakkan said Khan should not have made the statement without substantiating it. PTI said Vadakkan added that Khan, who is known to make controversial remarks, is the same politician who once asked Uttar Pradesh police to track down his missing buffalo.
