Aircraft manufacturer Boeing is in talks to make the Super Hornet fighter jet in India, Hindustan Times reported. The Boeing Company’s president and chief executive officer, Dennis Muilenberg, told Hindustan Times that the company sees it as an opportunity to tie into the Make in India initiative, and its strategy to invest in the country. Muilenberg also hinted at sharing Boeing’s technology to develop its fifth generation fighter jets, the F22 Raptor.
The Super Hornet, or F/A 18 fighter jet, is the mainstay of the United States navy, and is a twin-engine, all-weather fighter jet that is capable of taking off from and landing in an aircraft carrier. Muilenberg said the company identified India as one of its targeted regions for investment and that Boeing plans to invest billions of dollars in the country.
The Make in India initiative was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September 2014, to create jobs in the country and make India a global manufacturing hub by easing processes to do business in the country.
