World No 1 Novak Djokovic won his 11th Grand Slam and his sixth Australian Open title, defeating second seed Andy Murray 6-1 7-5 7-6 in the final on Sunday. This was also the fifth time in Murray's career that he has lost in the final of the Australian Open.
Djokovic was in imperious form at the start, putting in winner after winner to take the first set 6-1 in only 30 minutes. Murray finally discovered some form in a closely-contested second set, where the defending champion Djokovic was finally put under pressure. However, some unforced errors from Murray unfortunately gifted the second set as well to the Serbian.
The writing seemed to be on the wall when Murray went down 1-3 in the third set. To his credit, he fought back to level things and even go ahead 5-4. Djokovic, though, proved equal to the task, soaking up the pressure beautifully and unleashing some winners himself. It boiled down to a tie-breaker at the end and Djokovic ultimately prevailed to get his hands on yet another Grand Slam title.
