SpiceJet has increased its fees for ticket cancellation, booking changes and excess baggage, and the new rates will come into effect from February 1. The budget carrier has increased the cancellation and booking charges from Rs 1,800 to Rs 1,899 for domestic flights, and from Rs 2,250 to Rs 2,349 for international flights, reported Business Standard.
The excess baggage fee for 5 kgs has been revised from Rs 900 to Rs 990 for domestic flights and from Rs 1,850 to Rs 1,950 for international flights. While the new fee for excess baggage of 10 kgs will be Rs 1,750 for domestic flights, an international flyer will have to shell out Rs 3,900, Rs 200 more from the existing rate, starting next month.
Cancellation and excess baggage fees are an ancillary revenue for airlines. SpiceJet's ancillary revenue rose from 9% in the first quarter of this financial year to over 11% in the second quarter. SpiceJet chairperson Ajay Singh plans to further raise the share of ancillary business to 25% of the total revenue.
