World No 1 Novak Djokovic held off a late fightback from 17-time Grand Slam chamption Roger Federer on Thursday to enter the final of the Australian Open. The semifinal clash was billed as the match of the tournament, but the Djokovic was in scintillating form in the first two sets, destroying Federer 6-1 and 6-2. The Serbian dropped off the pace in the third set, allowing Federer to fight back, but got back his groove to win the fourth. The final score read 6-1 6-2 3-6 6-3.

In the women's draw, world No 1 Serena Williams went a win closer to a 22nd major title after sweeping past the fourth seeded Agnieszka Radwanska 6-0 6-4. Williams will play Germany's Angelique Kerber in the final, who defeated Great Britain's Johanna Konta 7-5 6-2.

The mixed doubles quarter finals had an Indian look to it as Sania Mirza and her Croatian partner Ivan Dodig faced off against Indian tennis legend Leander Paes and Swiss Martina Hingis. Mirza and Dodig won the game in straights, 7-6 6-3, to eliminate Paes and Hingis from the competition.
