The Aam Aadmi Party government set up an independent commission of inquiry on Wednesday to investigate complaints of crime against women that have been lodged since February 2013. In its notification, the Delhi government said the panel will look into cases of sexual violence, harassment, stalking, voyeurism, and other such crimes that have been ignored, ANI reported.
The committee, which will have a two-year tenure, will be headed by retired district judge Dinesh Dayal. It has to suggest necessary amendments to relevant laws and inform the Delhi government about any suspicious case it comes across.
Among other tasks delegated to the commission are recommending steps to expedite criminal proceedings, suggesting measures to implement existing laws, and proposing welfare measures to improve working conditions of personnel in law enforcement agencies. It has to submit its findings in a report every three months from the date of its first meeting.
