Police have blocked as many as 94 websites in 2015 in Maharashtra as part of efforts to curb the radicalisation of youth and the online influence of the Islamic State. The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad is also planning to launch a website to spread awareness on the “menace of ISIS” and to deradicalise people “falling prey to their tactics”, PTI reported.

According to Maharashtra ATS Chief Vivek Phansalkar, a number of community and religious leaders who are against ISIS are helping police in their efforts to deradicalise and create awareness among young people.

A recent countrywide crackdown by the National Investigation Agency led to the capture of 14 ISIS sympathisers. They were believed to have been planning a series of attacks on the eve of Republic Day.
