Senior journalist Paranjoy Guha Thakurta was on Saturday appointed Editor of the Economic and Political Weekly, PTI reported. The 60-year-old will take over from the incumbent Rammanohar Reddy in April. Thakurta's appointment was announced by the Sameeksha Trust, which runs the highly-acclaimed weekly, after its trustees considered the recommendations of a "Search Committee".

More than a decade after he took charge, Reddy announced his departure to his colleagues last week and on Wednesday sent an email to the journal's huge support group, saying he had had a satisfying and challenging tenure. The trustees recorded their deep appreciation for the admirable work done by Reddy as Editor and the enormous contribution that he had made to the journal.
