Home Minister Rajnath Singh said on Thursday that the entire Bangladesh border will be fenced to check infiltration. Addressing a rally in West Bengal's Barasat city ahead of the state assembly elections later this year, the Bharatiya Janata Party leader said the central government is doing its best to secure the Bangladesh border.
The home minister also attacked the Mamata Banerjee-led state government over the recent communal violence in Malda, accusing it of not taking appropriate action against the culprits. He also said that the Trinamool Congress government cannot deny responsibility for the incident. Taking a dig at Banerjee's Ma, Mati, Manush agenda, Singh said, "Aaj West Bengal mein koi surakshit nahi, na maa, na maati na manush (Today, no one is safe in West Bengal)."
Trinamool Congress MP Derek O'Brien shot back at the home minister's remarks saying, "Rajnath Singh must realise [that the] Malda violence was the BJP's creation. As home minister, he shouldn't be on a mission to stoke communal tension." O'Brien had earlier held the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's "social media army" responsible for the violence.
