A letter was sent to the French consulate in Bengaluru demanding that France’s president Francois Hollande cancel his upcoming visit to India. Hindustan Times reported that police sources said the letter was intimidating and that it arrived by post on January 11. A case was registered at High Grounds police station on January 14. Officials said they did not know who sent the letter.
Hollande will be landing in Chandigarh on January 24 and will attend Republic Day celebrations during his visit. The report added that up to 71 high-rise buildings will be completely closed around Rajpath area in Delhi, where the Republic Day parade is held. The same number of buildings were shut down during United States President Barack Obama’s visit in 2015, during which he also attended the parade.
Several important agreements are likely to be inked during Hollande’s visit, including a Rs 85,000 crore defence deal. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Hollande will also lay the foundation for the Interim Secretariat of the International Solar Alliance in Gurgaon on January 25.
