Karnataka Chief Minister K Siddaramaiah bought a silk, waterproof sari worth Rs 1.08 lakh for his wife Parvathi, reported India Today. The Congress leader made this rather special purchase at the inauguration of the Karnataka silk industries corporation in Davanagere on Tuesday.
The orange saree he bought was from the latest "Threads of Gold" collection of saris unveiled by the state government. Siddaramaiah also asked for a litre of water and poured it on the sari to convince himself that it was truly waterproof, before finally buying it.
The Karnataka government was recently in the news for imposing a luxury tax of 8% on beds in the intensive care unit of hospitals.
