The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Monday handed out bans to cricketers Ajit Chandila and Hiken Shah for alleged corruption. Former Rajasthan Royals off-spinner Ajit Chandila was banned for life by the board, while Mumbai batsman Hiken Shah was banned for five years. The decisions were taken by the BCCI’s Disciplinary Committee, headed by president Shashank Manohar, in Mumbai.
Chandila was found guilty of alleged spot-fixing during the Indian Premier League 2013, along with fellow Rajasthan Royals players S Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Amit Singh, in September 2013 by the BCCI. Shah, on the other hand, was suspended by the board in July last year after he was found guilty of making an illegal approach to a player ahead of IPL 2015, reported ESPNcricinfo.
Chandila and Shah had appeared before the BCCI committee on December 24 and were given time till January 4 to file a written response to the charges against them.
