Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell on Sunday struck 96 off just 83 balls to help Australia chase the target of 296 set by India with seven balls and three wickets to spare at Melbourne. India's total of 295-6 was a challenging one, but the tourists were let down by poor fielding and mediocre bowling. The win took Australia's unbeaten streak at home in One-Day Internationals to 18.

Earlier, Indian batsman Virat Kohli scored his 24th One-Day International century after Australia put India in to bat. Doing so, the 27-year-old also became the fastest batsman in the world to reach 7,000 ODI runs in his 169th match and 161st innings. Kohli was supported by Shikhar Dhawan (68) and Ajinkya Rahane (50), as India fell short of the 300-mark by five runs.

Australia then successfully chased down India's total for the third straight time, with Shaun Marsh (62) and captain Steven Smith (41) also chipping in. The hosts now have an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series. The fourth ODI is at Canberra on Wednesday.
