The Indian cricket team on Saturday moved to the top of the International Cricket Council's Test rankings after South Africa lost the third Test against England in Johannesburg, thereby losing the series. The Proteas, who now trail 0-2 in the four-match series, slipped off the perch after not having won a Test match for over a year. India had crushed South Africa 3-0 at home in December.
India regained the top spot after five years. They lost their hold over it last when England whitewashed MS Dhoni's men 4-0 at home in 2011. The team, now led by Virat Kohli, have 110 ranking points, one more than Australia. However, India's joy could be short-lived if the Australians win their upcoming three-Test home series against New Zealand by a 1-0 margin.
