American tech giant Microsoft has officially ended its support for the Windows 8 operating system, along with older versions of Internet Explorer. January 13 is the last day for Windows 8 support. Users can still operate it, but it will no longer be updated or have any security patches and big fixes.
Microsoft advised its users to stay updated to avoid malware. Users who upgrade to Windows 8.1 will receive support till January 2023. Windows 8, released in August 2012, was a paradigm shift in its user interface and was released to critical reception.
The company also advised those opting for the Internet Explorer web browser to use its new version, Internet Explorer 11. Those who switch to Windows 10 can move to Microsoft’s new browser, Microsoft Edge.
