Air travellers left goods worth a whopping Rs 32 crore at major airports in the country last year, according to official data. The items misplaced in the security-hold area of airports included cash of various denominations, mobile phones, jewellery, laptops, and other electronic devices, said the Central Industrial Security Force, which is mandated to secure 59 civil airports in the country.
The CISF, which is tasked with frisking passengers and conducting anti-sabotage and counter-terror checks at the airports, also reported 209 instances when arms and ammunition were detected in passengers’ baggage. "It was largely found that the fliers carried them inadvertently," an official said. The force also reported 43 cases where people attempted to travel using fake e-tickets, and also apprehended 98 touts, reported PTI.
