India wants the United Nations Security Council to ban Pakistan-based terrorists, for which it is preparing dossiers. The list will include the alleged mastermind behind the attack on the Pathankot Indian Air Force base, Abdul Rauf, and the names of members of the Indian Mujahideen who fled to the neighbouring country or joined ISIS, India Today reported.
Rauf is the brother of Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Maulana Masood Azhar, who was involved in the hijack of an Indian Airlines in 1999. India had tried to get Azhar included in the UN sanctions list before, but had failed because of opposition from China. The move is part of efforts to push Pakistan to act quickly because intelligence reports indicate that more Pathankot-like attacks might be carried out by Pakistani terror groups.
According to a senior government official, the list mentions at least 10 to 12 individuals. “A detailed report is being prepared that will be sent to UN,” the official added. The Ministry of External Affairs will send the proposal, which was made on the basis of reports prepared by the Ministry of Home Affairs, to the UNSC. It will also feature information on investigations that prove the involvement of those mentioned in terror cases.
