The Mumbai police are investigating a letter purportedly sent by a member of the Islamic State to an officer of the Pune Anti-Terror Squad, CNN-IBN reported. In the letter, which was sent two weeks ago, the IS member threatened to kill Assistant Commissioner of Police Bhanupratap Barge and his family. It is unclear whether the letter was from a legitimate ISIS member or an impostor.

Barge and his ATS team had helped de-radicalise a 16-year-old Muslim girl from Pune who had expressed her wish to join the terror outfit and had been in contact with the group. He had said the ATS had interrogated the girl after monitoring her movements for several days. “She was ready to go to any extent to carry out the ISIS directive,” he had said earlier. He added that she went through a de-radicalisation programme with the help of her family and community religious leaders.
