Additional Commissioner of the Mumbai Police (Crime) KMM Prasanna has issued a circular to all police stations in the city, highlighting the procedural errors made in investigating the 2002 Salman Khan hit-and-run case. Prasanna has directed the squad to learn from the mistakes made by the investigating officer and to provide fool-proof arguments when such cases come up for trial in the future.
The 50-year-old actor was acquitted in the case by the Bombay High Court last month. In its judgment, the court had pointed out numerous mistakes the police had made in their investigation, which were mentioned in the circular. The Mumbai Police are also in the process of drafting the state’s appeal challenging the High Court’s acquittal order.
