The Mumbai Police have identified 15 locations in the city where taking selfies can be dangerous, BBC reported. The spots include the Marine Drive promenade, Girgaum Chowpatty beach, Bandra Bandstand, Sion Fort and Worli Fort, all of which are popular tourist attractions. According to the report, the police were forced to take this decision after a man died on Saturday trying to save three girls – one of whom also died – who fell into the sea while trying to take a selfie.
A Mumbai Police spokesperson said, “The police will now approach the city’s municipality to prevent accidents at such spots due to people taking selfies. The municipality may deploy life guards and install warning signs.” Last year, the Kumbh Mela was declared a “no selfie zone” as authorities feared it could cause stampedes.
