Squash player Ravi Dixit has apologised for offering to sell his kidney online to raise funds. Hours after reports emerged that he was prepared to sell one of his kidneys for Rs 8 lakh to finance his participation in the South Asian Games and other upcoming tournaments, Dixit said it was a "spur of the moment" decision that he was now regretting, reported CNN-IBN.
In a Facebook post, which was later deleted, he had said: “Even after winning so many medals and representing India so many times, I do not get any support to take my squash to the national and international levels.” He also said that he depends on prize money to fund his training.
Dixit has been playing squash for 10 years and is one of the four players from the country selected for the South Asian Games in Guwahati. The 23-year-old was a gold medallist in the 2010 Asian junior championships. His offer to sell his kidney triggered outrage on social media.
