Lionel Messi won his fifth FIFA Ballon d'Or in a glittering ceremony in Zurich on Monday, beating out his Barcelona teammate Neymar and Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo. United States midfielder Carli Lloyd won the women's award.
The other awardees of the night were Jill Elvis, coach of the United States women's football team, who won the award for World Coach of the Year – Women's Football. Barcelona manager Luis Enrique won the World Coach of the Year – Men's Football award.
In addition, the FIFA FifPro World XI for 2016 was also announced. It constituted the following eleven best footballers in the world: Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich), Dani Alves (Barcelona), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), Thiago Silva (PSG), Marcelo (Real Madrid), Andres Iniesta (Barcelona), Paul Pogba (Juventus), Luka Modric (Real Madrid), Lionel Messi (Barcelona), Neymar (Barcelona), Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid).
