The Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi on Friday told the Delhi High Court that 15 days is not long enough to try the odd-even rule, and made its case for an extension. The government defended its move to allow vehicles with odd and even number licence plates to ply in the city only on alternate days, and claimed that pollution levels in the capital have dropped during peak hours because of the new rule.
The court on Wednesday had said that the public was being inconvenienced by the new rule, along with insufficient public transport. It asked for a report on pollution levels since January 1 by the end of Friday. The court on Friday also asked the AAP government if it needed more time to evaluate how effective the rule was, to which the government said yes. The court has now reserved its ruling on the matter for Monday.
The rule is set to be implemented till January 15.
