Indian shooter Apurvi Chandela created a world record on her way to winning a gold in the women's 10-metre air rifle event at the Swedish Cup Grand Prix in Savsjo, Sweden, on Tuesday.
Chandela shot 211.2 in the event to beat the earlier record of 211, set by Chinese Olympic gold medallist Yi Siling.
This marks a great start to the year for Chandela, who will be participating for India in the Rio Olympics later this year. She qualified for the Olympics after winning silver at the ISSF World Cup in South Korea last year.
A PTI release quoted her as saying, "This gold at Sweden has further strengthened my resolve to bag a medal at the Rio Olympics this year. The support, encouragement and wishes received from my well-wishers from Rajasthan has stood me in good stead in various international tournaments."
