Actor Sanjay Dutt is set to walk free from Pune’s Yerwada jail on February 27, more than three months before his official date of release. This was after the Maharashtra government cleared a proposal for remitting his sentence. NDTV reported the reprieve has been granted on the grounds of good conduct. The 56-year-old is serving a five-year sentence for the illegal possession and destruction of an AK-56 rifle in 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case.

In this period, Dutt has been out on parole twice and on furlough an equal number of times, which attracted a lot of criticism. The last time he was out on furlough was because he wanted to be home and attend to his daughter's medical problems, reported dna. NDTV reported that the actor spent 118 days out of jail between May 2013 and May 2014.
