The Ministry of External Affairs on Wednesday issued a new advisory to students travelling abroad. It directed Indian students seeking admission in universities in the US to first ensure that the institutes have proper authorisation, carry all required documents, including study plans, housing, financial support and healthcare arrangements, and be prepared for interviews with immigration officials.
The advisory was issued after reports emerged that 30 Indian students were deported from the United States for working illegally, while several others had been denied entry for providing border control officers with information inconsistent with their visa status.
In a statement released by the ministry, it also advised Indian nationals travelling to the US on other visas to carry all necessary documents regarding place of stay, financial support, medical arrangements, sponsorship details, etc.
